Intel officially released it's first new processor from the Penryn series of products. Penryn is all about the eternal quest for a smaller die-size. The fabrication process of Penryn is at an incredibly small 45nm. The previous generation QX6850 was built on a 65nm fabrication process. Intel estimates that downscaling that process could save up-to 30% in power consumption.

nVidia® to launch GeForce® 9 series

nVidia® is ready for its next-generation GPU launch.

The first chip to rollout of in GeForce® 9 family will be the D9E, a high-end product that adopts 65nm manufacturing. The new product will also support DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1, revealed the sources.

In addition to the D9E, Nvidia will roll out a mid-range GeForce 9 family product named D9P in June 2008. The new GPU will adopt 55nm processing, the sources pointed out.

Samsung® announces GDDR5

Samsung announced what they are calling the world's fastest memory: GDDR5. The new series five, double-data rate memory chip transfers data at a lickity quick 6Gbps -- about 4x faster while using 20% less power than the GDDR3 memory found in modern GPUs and the PS3.

Compare that to their 4Gbps GDDR4 chips and you'll understand the fuss. The chips have already been delivered in samples to the likes of NVIDIA and ATI. Samsung expects the series five chips to capture more than 50 percent of the high-end PC graphics market by

Samsung's GDDR5, which will be introduced at a density of 512 Mb (16Mb x 32) chips, is capable of transmitting moving images and associated data at 24 gigabytes per second (GBps).

The new Samsung graphics memory operates at 1.5 volts, representing an approximate 20% improvement in power consumption over today's most popular graphics chip, the GDDR3.

Samples of Samsung's new GDDR5 chip have been delivered to major graphic processor companies last month and mass production is expected in the first half of 2008.

Samsung expects that GDDR5 memory chips will become the de facto standard in the top performing segment of the market by capturing more than 50% of the high-end PC graphics market by 2010.

Logitech® Z5500 Digital Speakers

Logitech is releasing some new speaker goodness. We'll see three new speaker sets from Logitech with the lovely THX certification. The new products are the Z2300, Z5300e and the Z5500 Digital sets. The first mentioned speaker is of course based on the Z2200 with the bigger difference being a aluminum black coating. The specifications remained the same.
